Gov. Susana Martinez injured herself while skiing in Utah this weekend.
“On Sunday during some downtime, I hit the slopes and took a spill,” Martinez told NM Political Report in a statement. “I’m getting my knee checked out in the coming days. But all is well. I thought I was a pretty decent skier, but there aren’t too many slopes in southern New Mexico….”
KRQE-TV was the first to report on the injury and says Martinez tore her ACL while skiing.
KOB-TV later reported, citing unnamed sources, Martinez was injured while avoiding a group of children.
According to KOB, Martinez was at a ski resort with other governors.
The Republican Governors Association held a meeting in Utah this weekend and a spokesman told the Associated Press Martinez would attend the meeting. The RGA is a political group that aids Republicans running for governor. Martinez is the immediate past chair of the RGA.
The RGA paid for the trip.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday Martinez said there could be a special session, and she cited legislators taking up “meaningless bills.”
The Senate Democrats’ Twitter account criticized Martinez for skiing while the Legislature was in session
